Randy Beal and Gene Clark are a duo who also perform solo and have begun hosting an open mic session at a place in Conroe, Tx. called, The Table at Madely, on the 3rd Sunday afternoon of each month, from 2 til 6. Randy has been after me to attend, so yesterday I did... but, I didn't play. John was there as well as was a lady we all know, Angela Floyd who also didn't play... we didn't need to.
Personally, I attended because Randy keeps inviting me and I owe it to him (even before he gifted me with the guitar) because he is so supportive... the past shows not many showed up, but, that wasn't the case yesterday. I knew 2 of the participants, from previous shows, Caroline (whom I spoke of recently) and a young man (16 years old) by the name of Lane O'neal was there. The rest I didn't know, but they were all talented...
There were 15 acts.... there was a ton of talent showed up, ranging in age from 10 (yes 10) to at least near my age. Male and female. There were 2 trio's one trio had a lady fiddle player/singer... the 10 year old boy was doing Pink Floyd tunes and pulling it off admirably! accompanying himself on guitar... the manager of the venue counted, at one point in the afternoon, 84 people in attendance! It's an outdoor venue with food trucks feeding folks who want food...
Randy called me last night, to thank me for coming, but also, to gently admonish me for not playing... the personal touch of him doing that is one of the reasons I like him so much.
I had to cut the call short because my youngest son called while Randy and I were talking... but, I did manage to thank him, profusely, for his support and explain to him, I am so happy to just be in on the ground floor of what is happening, musically, in Montgomery County, Tx... it seems like it's blowing up...
Over 10 acts, in a 3 hour time frame, regularly, at Cork This Tap That, and now this event... and to be known, by name, by the promoters and main participants is beyond any expectation I ever had when I went to my first one last year.
AND, I'm NOT bragging- I'm 'splainin, Lucy... what a time for amateur players in my part of the world...
and I am a small part of it... a mission accomplished, (legacy and posterity) that I had no idea about doing before December of 2021...
