How to save your guitar from summer heat damage...

Thanks for posting that very useful information on guitar care.
For once I am very lucky with living in England, as I don't have to take too much notice of temperature and humidity.

Think if I lived in some parts of the States or Canada, I would be very tempted to buy all laminate guitars.

Right now we are entering a heat wave in Montreal. I am fighting to keep humidity under 55% in my room.
It holdin at 51% this morning, but one of the problems with de-humidfiers is they raise the temperature.. so 51% @ 26c.
Not comfortable for me My tee is sticking to my back, and its 7:20AM!

I have a huge window A/C (a 2 person mount job) upstairs.
No central. no room to install central without changing furnace also.

Its 11:21 now and still 51% @ 26c. in guitar room.

guitar room ceiling temp is 29c (27c at guitar level. Humidity is holding at 48%
Room is uncomfortable for human. I come in, i read, i post, i take a guitar upstairs to play

Outside, icecream melts as you walk out of store.
Weather says it is 30c now at 7:15pm, so it getting considerably cooler now. But can still fry eggs on car hood without engine running

Thanks for this. I read it and checked off everything a-ok but here in So California it's hot. My guitars are well humidified and kept in their hard cases in the closet. But the temp inside has been consistently running 79-82 degrees F overnight. I tried moving the cases out to bigger room but same readings. Do I need to be concerned? It was 112 degrees one day last week and I think one guitar got up to 87 degrees that day .

I run a humidifier in the winter, and central A/C in the summer. The last couple of months I'm seeing humidity in the 60s with A/C running - temp around 70f, but humidity 65%. Guitars are all OK. I just started using these little digital temp/humidity readers the last two years, so I'm assuming previous years have been similar. My guitars experience humidity lows in the 40s in winter to 60s in summer. When the humidity goes up, the guitar needs tuning. I don't think high humidity causes the damage that too low a humidity can, too low can crack the wood. I think it would take an extended time in humidity lower than 30% to get into that danger zone. I've had both solid wood and laminate body guitars experience mid to upper 30% humidity range for a week or so without any lasting effects. I don't like seeing that happen though - but in really cold weather humidifiers can have trouble keeping up.
