Bass guitar care? Yamaha TRBX

I can honestly say that I bought my Yamaha RBX170 bass (old version of the TRBX) and played it for 3 years without doing a thing to it. I may have wiped it down every once in a while. It played and sounded great, although action became a little high. Then took it for a setup and new strings after 3 years. Voila, like new out the shop.

Tony, you can't go wrong with a TRBX. I think they are bullet proof.

The one thing you do need to know is that the TRBX is kind of like "bass lite" - It's has a shorter neck and scale, is extremely light for a bass, and generally very comfortable.

On the con side, a lot of true bassists are put off by its smaller size, as it doesn't fit that massive P-Bass vibe. But I have not found it to be thin sounding at all. The pickups are top notch for a budget instrument.

My good friend who plays guitar, owns a high end guitar dealership, and also oversees the sound desk at out church, absolutely raves about the RBX170. When compared to Ibanez GIO and budget Cort P/J basses, there is not even a comparison in terms of the warmth of the neck pickup. It sounds the most natural.

Good luck Tony, I hope you get one. It's not a lot of cash for a great instrument. I actually miss mine, although I am not playing bass at all these days, and I have that Takamine acoustic bass, which is really great. So even though I miss it, I am glad I sold it.

With regard to amps, what are you looking at. I play through a 50w Eden used as a feedback monitor, as our church has dedicated bass cabs on each side. My friend uses an 80w UK Orange as feedback monitor. Both are great. The Eden gives a more defined sound, while the Orange has a very permeating sound, that makes the symbols rattle from 2km away ! . It's like it creeps into your bones. Both are nice, but I prefer the Eden, as it sits tighter in the mix.

Oh wow! Thats weird, because it seems much smaller. And in a normal bass case, it sits about 5-6 cm short.  Maybe its just the design of the body that has fooled me into thinking that the neck is smaller. But your research does make some sense, becasue it doesnt sound smaller. Its got a typical passive P/J bass sound. Thanks Jim .
