CSN cover and interesting alternate tuning

I came across this 2010 cover of CSN's Suite Judy Blue Eyes and found it remarkable in a couple of ways.
First, the vocal harmonies are amazing to the point of challenging the original, IMO. Foxes and Fossils. Many of us here can relate to "fossils", I'm sure.
Looks like the band is mostly inactive now, probably due to the girls getting older and going on their ways.
Second, the tuning of the "lead" guitar (on the left) intrigued me. Since he strums all open strings at times, I knew it must be some alternate tuning. Digging into it a bit, I found out it's a "modal E-chord", E-E-E-E-B-E. Might be old hat to some of you guys, but it's new to me. I'm going to dust off my old S6, tune it down and give it a whirl. Looks like fun.
I believe that's a Carvin guitar that he's playing.
