Hi there, I have an old Ovation Custom Balladeer 1978 model and it still takes its place in my roster of guitars. I had to get it refretted about 6 months ago and the guy did a damned good job of it too. And the old girl has done some miles during our life together. The name on the guitar (Al Winter) was my stage name that started off as a tax dodge, but I got caught out and had to register it as a trade name. The kind people at the tax office then kindly forgot my previous misdemeanors. S
Hi Modernsaint, nice Family you've got there. I only have the one Ovation that I bought new in 1978 and just a few years ago I checked out with Kaman the age of mine by sending in the serial# and it came back as 1981. Strange because somewhere I have a photo of me on stage with my Ovation and the advert for the show I was on clearly says "September 1978". So someone at Kaman must have got their knickers in a twist. I reckon the Ovation is one of the best crafted guitars ever made and mine is already promised to my Grandson when I shrug my mortal coil.
