Seagull Folk cedar top? Thoughts on aluminum bronze strings

How are you feeling about the EB aluminum bronze strings? I have a set arriving from Amazon tomorrow, along with the new Tusq saddle and Tusq bridge pins.

I plan to stay with the EXP 16s that are on that folk for a few days to see if I notice a sonic difference with the new hardware, then try out the EBs.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.  Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin.  Just sayin'!  :?)

Back in my engraving shop, we used to prefer and tried to use only (if possible) something called "Engraver's Brass."  It was brass that had lead added to it (don't know at what percentage).

The main problem with true brass is it's very soft and does not machine well; the cutter will tend to "chew" it instead of "cut" it.  You can machine true brass, but you have to sharpen your cutter a different way, with a different angle, with different relief etc and use certain types of different coolants for it to be viable.  Very tricky and a pain in the you-know-what (at least compared to machinable materials).

Now with Engraver's Brass, you would think that adding lead would make it softer, but the opposite happens.  The added lead makes the brass much harder and very easy to machine.  I remember when I first learned this it blew my mind and made me realize that alloys are very cool things.

so regular brass is like Abba doing Country rock. while Engravers Brass is like Black Sabbath doing Country Rock?
