So tonight I was invited around to play some very nice guitars. Having just had our neck discussion, I really was trying to get a feel for different necks. I left my guitars at home.

I played the following :
- 2013 Gibson J45 True Vintage (1.75)
- Martin D18 (with modified low oval neck)
- Martin HD28 VA (with 1 11/16 nut)
- Taylor Fall Limited GA Cocobolo
- Collings D2H

My simple totally biased conclusion out of quality time with these models:

Nothing plays quite so well as a Taylor. But still love the sound of a Gibson J45.

I have short arms and short fingers, and I will tell you that for me it is neck shape AND width that makes the difference for me. Neck length also enters into the equation, as scale length is a HUGE deal for me. But my Simon and Patrick is as comfortable as my Larrivee and my Art and Lutherie. I just need to be able to reach the strings, and get my arm around to either pick or strum.

very often, guitars with 1.75 nut have the exact same string spacing as a Seagull.

I find the extra spacing on the outside edge of 1st string important in the way I play guitar.

There are compositions created on the Amber Trails, I cannot play as cleanly on my Martin HPL, because the 1st string gets pulled off the fretboard. Although sometimes the sound of a string being pulled over the end of a fret might be desirable

That's why I bought mine!

always keeping in mind that the Seagull 1.8" nut uses 1.75's nut string spacing.
