After finding a FG-110 for only $40 and it turning out to be a very lightweight and resonant guitar, I've been looking to find another to compare stats. I found this one on Shopgoodwill.com.
It arrived at 11:34am, far earlier than the usual UPS deliveries. So I had to wait until I got home at about 4pm to be able to unbox it. Since it's finally spring and 73 degrees, I didn't have to wait any longer!
I'm a little disappointed. It's a little more beat up than the pictures showed. I guess it was well loved! This pic shows a hint of the UGLY strap that came with it. It was quickly removed and thrown on the floor.
The bridge is low and not much saddle left. The action is a bit higher than I like. It needs a neck reset, but I will probably make it playable for now to compare it to the other FG-110.
No serial number on the brace, just like my other FG-110. The internal markings date it to 1971.
The Yamaha 000 shape.
Dusty headstock.
The tuners are in great shape but stiff and dirty.
The truss rod nut.
The bridge is a little "groovy".
A "dust rat".
Dust worms.
Insides with markings.
More date markings.
The bottom of the bridge plate is a little splintered. I may add a 1/16" thick maple patch over it.
The frets are flat but not too bad. I'll probably crown them with the wide side of the fret file.
The nut looks like it was relieved with a triangular file. Since it has a narrow 1.35" string spacing, it'll be replaced with a modern 1.44" spacing TUSC nut.
Interesting colors in the pick guard. It's hard to get any flat pictures without reflections of the lights above.
Another shape picture with reflections.
I almost forgot to mention. My first FG-110 weighs 3.50 lbs, the lightest guitar I have. I assume that's because they very lightly braced it and it's dried out over the past 47 years. This one weighs 3.37 lbs!! I weighed it 5 times to be sure, and weighed the other FG-110 to confirm my scale was still accurate.
I NEED to find a FG-150 (same size, higher model) one of these days for comparison. I've been looking for many months but they're kind of rare and when I do find one it's either 3 hours away or more than I want to pay. Someday I'll find one.
