Most people have had a stupid accident that they have no idea how it happened or it happened in a completely unexpected way.
Nearly 2 years ago I hurt my right wrist snow blowing. Yea, snow blowing. The snow was very deep and I didn't know where the curb was. I went over the edge on an angle and fought to pull the 200 lb. snow blower back while it was on one wheel. STUPID!! I felt something pop in my right wrist. Hurt like hell!! I fought through it and finished the job. It only hurt when I moved it the wrong way so I ignored it for a couple of weeks. Then I put a brace on it for 4 weeks. Then I went to the ortho doctor and he said I torn some cartilage in my wrist. On goes the cast!! A cast on your dominant hand sucks!!! I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!! I was amazed all the things I couldn’t do. The worst part was the big wad of fiberglass in my palm that got in the way of doing almost everything. It was like a tease, I could move my fingers and thumb but not enough to do many things. And it irritated the skin and joints of my fingers and thumb. I’ve mostly forgotten about that part. When I finally got it off there was a NEW sharp pain on the other side of my wrist, at the thumb!!! He said that’s normal and sent me for physical therapy. 3 months of therapy restored the strength I lost but that pain didn’t go away. It’s like I traded one pain for another!! He said it would go away as I used it more. I think it took a year!!
Last night I was awakened by a sharp pain in my left wrist. I don’t know what caused it. It only hurts when I move it the wrong way. I have swelling in the same place as when I hurt the right wrist. The same symptoms in the same place! And it’s like kind of a minor annoyance since the wrist is fully functional until I get to that one position or do the wrong thing, which doesn’t happen too often. Just like last time. I’ll probably go to the ortho doctor after work, they have a walk in “ortho ouch” clinic along with the regular appointments. All you have to do is wait!
I don’t know how the pain will affect playing guitar. If I have to wear a brace or a cast that will end guitar playing for a month or 2. If I don’t go to the doctor my wife will drag me there. I don’t like my options.
