I checked the nut action for all strings and found the G string was already at the proper height, while the low E was a bit high and the others were is various amounts of slightly high. Had to use the nut files to get them all correct. I was about to knock the nut out and sand a little off of the bottom. Good thing I didn't. Would of have Gooched that one!
Still with the old strings, it plays much better. That was a great example of adjusting the nut height to make a huge difference in playability.
I was thinking of buying the Elixir Nanoweb HD Lights for this guitar. www.elixirstrings.com/hdlight/index.html Developed for Taylor guitars. Bolder, stronger high end. Fuller, warmer low end. Kind of sounds like what this guitar needs?
The other option is to use the Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings I already have. www.ernieball.com/guitar-strings/acoustic-guitar-strings/aluminum-bronze-acoustic-guitar-strings#P02566 The graph looks like they accentuate the highs and bass slightly, to offset the "strong midrange response" that Godin built the guitar for.
Since I have them, I'll probably use the EB's.
